C17 – Decarbonization of the heating and cooling sector by ectogrid™ Planning, Control and Optimization

In the context of decarbonization, innovative building energy systems are becoming increasingly important. The ectogrid™ technology developed by E.ON enables the efficient simultaneous heating and cooling of buildings and city districts. As part of the project "C17 - Decarbonization of the heating and cooling sector by ectogrid™ Planning, Control and Optimization", a software tool was further developed that enables fast and user-friendly profitability calculations and dimensioning of the ectogrid™ technology.

In this project, the existing control strategies were further developed and tested under real conditions at a demonstration site. The further developments consisted in particular in the extension of the mapped technology portfolio, the extension of the reference regions, the integration of detailed economic model parameters and the increase of user friendliness. In addition, the novel concept of the vertical ectogrid™ was investigated by means of simulation models.

In this project, the researchers based at FCN-ESE worked on the more detailed mapping of economic model input parameters, as well as on the evaluation of the model results using specially developed KPIs for innovative building energy systems.
