Smartness to Existing Buildings

Smart2B project

Project duration: 10/2020 – 9/2023

Funded by: European Commission - Horizon 2020

Grant no.: 101023666

Smart2B aims at developing and evaluating smart building energy systems. To this end, smart devices, IT infrastructure and IT services are scrutinized. Their use will put citizens, building occupants and utilities at the center of the energy transition considerations by enabling, in particular, legacy buildings to interact in real-time with their occupants and the power grid to unlock energy efficiency and local flexibility through smart home technology - using easy-to-install and cost-efficient retrofitting options.

FCN is analyzing the economic, social and regulatory framework for smart energy systems for existing buildings, as well as non-monetary incentive systems for end users (based on “nudging” and “gamification”). EBC leads the technical and socio-economic requirements analysis in the project. In addition, EBC also contributes to developing predictive and adaptive control strategies for building energy systems.

The project involves 11 different partners from 8 European countries. More information about the project is available on the project homepage:
